Aloha First
Purpose

Aloha First is a community based non-profit formed July 1, 1996. With a Board of six, our grassroots organizers work to promote the Native Hawaiian culture and the values of Aloha. The belief as Native Hawaiians is that when Aloha is First, everything else will follow. We are focused on restoring the trust once embraced by Hawaiians for Hawaiians and those who visit or make Hawaii their home.

The mission of Aloha First can be summed up in one word, education. We endeavor to stimulate and provide education consistent with this mission in order to bridge differences within the various societies of the Hawaiian islands. An educational program to address economic, social and cultural issues that presently face all inhabitants of these islands is currently being designed.

Economic Development Education: The goal of the organization is to take individuals who are presently unemployed or working for low wages and teach them to operate their own business. Classes will be given in both small business development and the growing of traditional crops, for those interested in agricultural subsistence, at no charge.

Social Development Education: Aloha First intends to educate low income individuals in the areas of health, housing, and education. Classes will be given on a more healthy diet while reducing food cost. Assistance will be provided by the organization for placing homeless individuals. Information regarding low cost medical care will be provided while offering classes in alternative healing. Counseling assistance for families with children will be offered while encouraging children to stay in school. These services and classes will be available at no charge.

Cultural Development Education: Classes will be conducted by the organization relating to the Hawaiian culture, specifically classes in teaching the Hawaiian language and in teaching the Hawaiian art of self-defense. Participants will not be charged for this opportunity.

Lastly, Aloha First will continue to:

  1. protect, restore and preserve cultural, historical and sacred sites, traditions, and values of Hawaii.

  2. encourage, promote and support the rights of native Hawaiians through peaceful and legal processes to assert claims to their lands.

  3. encourage and support the cause of Hawaiian sovereignty in promoting the rights of all native cultures to govern themselves.
